Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education Conference
Advance EE Conference
Six members of Cal-Wood staff—two instructors, two assistant instructors, our program coordinator, and our executive director—were fortunate to attend the 2015 CAEE conference on the future of environmental education. The conference was on Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th and included professional educators in environmental education from all over Colorado.
The conference inspired us with new ideas and approaches to our work and allowed us to connect with people from organizations and schools throughout Colorado. Our instructors were inspired by a demonstration lesson by Aspen Center for Environmental Studies that effectively combined different components each geared towards kinesthetic, auditory, or visual learners. Our program coordinator enjoyed learning about evaluation tools other education centers are using so we can better measure our success at achieving our goals as an organization. One assistant instructor was intrigued by several presentations of the Gaia hypothesis, a hypothesis that all life on Earth has evolved to keep the physical systems on the planet suitable for life.
It also took going all the way to Denver to reconnect with our neighbors, Balarat Outdoor Education! Our staffs had a great time getting to know each other better and discussing ideas from the conference. Hopefully we can collaborate again soon!
