Cal-Wood Programs Overview

While school groups comprise the core of Cal-Wood's programmatic emphasis, we strive to offer high quality, customized experiences for other organizations as well. Cal-Wood's beautiful setting, excellent facilities, and highly skilled staff offer rich opportunities for trainings, retreats, camps or variations of the above. Moreover, programming occurs year-round at Cal-Wood as our winters are relatively mild. The following are general descriptions of what we do at Cal-Wood and what we offer. Please visit our Visitor Information page to learn more and feel free to contact us to discuss program ideas.

School Programs

Cal-Wood provides to school groups residential, year round, one to five day environmental education programs at our private 1,040-acre outdoor learning center. We work with public and private schools, primarily from the Denver metro area, and with all grade levels. More than a field trip, Cal-Wood is an opportunity for teachers to meet Colorado Academic Content Standards in a spectacular outdoor setting. Moreover, team-building and guided discovery activities enhance the overall program to create a unique and exciting approach to the learning experience. We collaborate with teachers to design a program that reflects the needs and abilities of their students. No two Cal-wood programs are the same!

"We were very impressed with Cal-Wood's school program. Cal-Wood's program clearly addressed science, math, social studies and language arts standards and curricula. The instructors were very knowledgeable, personable and high energy, yet calming. We especially liked the balance of academic and affective curriculum. Members of our staff have attended various outdoor education programs and Cal-Wood is now our first choice."
