Sample Schedule (3 day – 2 night)

Cal-Wood offers one to five day educational programs. Here is a sample schedule for a three day/two night program designed in coordination with teacher(s) to determine final program design emphasis and structure.

DAY 1 – An introductory day. Emphasis is on students’ awareness of their new environment at Cal-Wood. Teaching includes team-building and introductory academic concepts.

  • 10:00 AM- Arrive short hike to Lodge (with luggage) and settle in to cabins
  • 11:00 AM- Orientation to Cal-Wood
  • 12 Noon- Lunch in the field (sack lunches from home).  Divide into learning groups of 10-15 students for afternoon. (Topics activities and activity length to be determined with teacher input).
  • 4:30 PM- B.O.B. Time begins (Body On Bunk time in the cabins – supervised by school support staff)
  • 5:00 PM- Down-time begins – supervised by school support staff
  • 5:45 PM- Hoppers to the Dining Hall
  • 6:00 PM- Dinner & Clean-Up
  • 7:30 PM- Evening Program by Cal-Wood staff
  • 9:00 PM- Ready for bed
  • 9:30 PM- Lights Out: Supervision in cabins by school support staff

DAY 2 – A full, intensive day of learning and exploring in the outdoors. Instructors teach a variety of creative, discovery- driven activities. Team-building development continues.

  • 7:00 AM- Wake Up
  • 7:30 AM- Hoppers to the kitchen for set-up
  • 7:45 AM- Breakfast & Clean-up
  • 9:00 AM- Learning day begins (students remain in same learning groups), prepared for a full day outside.
  • Approx 12 Noon- Lunch in the field
  • 4:30 PM- B.O.B. Time begins (Body On Bunk Time in the cabins – supervised by school support staff)
  • 5:00 PM- Down-time begins – supervised by school support staff
  • 5:45 PM- Hoppers to the Dining Hall
  • 6:00 PM- Dinner & Clean-Up
  • 7:30 PM- Evening Program by Cal-Wood staff
  • 9:00 PM- Ready for bed
  • 9:30 PM- Lights Out: Supervision in cabins by school support staff

DAY 3 – The final day builds upon the students’ newly acquired awareness and knowledge. Program emphasis progresses to the understanding that students are connected to the natural resources that they have explored. Our ultimate goal is to relate the learning of Cal-Wood to the students’ home environment. Finally, all Cal-Wood educational programs provide a form of closure.

  • 7:00 AM- Wake-Up & Pack personal items and place on front porch
  • 7:30 AM- Hoppers to the kitchen for set-up
  • 7:45 AM- Breakfast
  • 8:30 AM- Lodge and cabin clean-ups
  • 9:00 AM- Learning day begins
  • Approx 12 Noon- Lunch in the field
  • Closing and Goodbyes with entire group
  • Departure between 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM
