CAL-WOOD PROGRAMS

Cal-Wood has connected hundreds of thousands of kids and family members to the Colorado mountains through our environmental education programs.

Our 1,200-acre mountain site in Boulder County serves as our outdoor classroom where students immerse in nature for 3-days/2 nights. During their Cal-Wood experience, each student receives a total of 31.5 hours of science and environmental education programming, compared to 1-4 hours in most programs.. All Cal-Wood programs are customized to meet the academic, social and linguistic needs of each school. As our expert staff leads students through hands-on, field-based exploration of local plants, animals, snow science, fire ecology, forestry, geology, and pond ecosystems, children connect to nature and each other.

This program was designed as an alternative to school programs during the pandemic.  School-age children come to Cal-Wood with their families with a focus is academic enrichment and outdoor exploration.  This program is offered during the  2020/21 school year, and Fall 2021 depending on school district field trip policies.

LATINO FAMILY CAMPS

Cal-Wood’s Latino Family Camp program combines the benefits of nature and outdoor recreation with a celebration of family, community and Latino culture. During each weekend program, families camp, hike, fish, mountain bike, and cook beside the campfire at Cal-Wood, Rocky Mountain National Park, and other public lands.

Summer days are spent exploring our forests, meadows, creeks, and historical sites while making new friends and bonding with old. Campers will learn to embrace the mountains and challenge themselves through education, recreation, and making lifelong memories!

Cal-Wood’s remote and breathtaking setting combined with cozy accommodations and delicious food create a perfect atmosphere for an organizational retreat for 20 to 120 guests. Groups find they accomplish more in their time at Cal-Wood because of the lack of distraction and the abundance of natural inspiration. Groups create their own dynamic program based on components such as meals, lodging, facilitation etc.
