CAL-WOOD EDUCATION CENTER
Since 1982, Cal-Wood has connected hundreds of thousands of youth and family members to the Colorado mountains through our environmental education programs.
THE CAL-WOOD FIRE
The Cal-Wood Fire burned half of our 1,200 acre beautiful mountain top in October 2020. We have begun the restoration, a 5-10 year process and will cost millions of dollars, and during this process, we hope to transform Cal-Wood into an outdoor research and education center for fire ecology, restoration, and mitigation.
We know that restoration and recovery will be a long road with soil and erosion control, reseeding grasses, replanting trees, and rebuilding our trails and bridges.
We are currently unsure when we will be able to engage volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering in the future, please fill out the form on the volunteer page.
SCHOOL YEAR 2021/22
Cal-Wood has made the very difficult decision to not run overnight full capacity programs in the fall. Many school districts are not permitting field trips in the coming months. With this news and the evolving landscape, our board of directors decided that there are too many uncertainties to hire instructors and staff for full capacity school programs. We still hope to run smaller private and charter school group programs and weekend family programs in accordance with Boulder County Public Health guidelines.
